Strategic bidding in electricity markets with convexified AC market-clearing process

This paper presents a framework to solve the strategic bidding problem of participants in an electricity market cleared by employing full AC Optimal Power Flow (ACOPF) formulation. Traditionally, independent system operators (ISOs) leveraged DC (DCOPF) formulation settle market. The main quest this work is find what would be challenges and opportunities if ISOs leverage ACOPF as market-clearing Problem (MCP)? tractable mathematical programming with equilibrium constraints for convexified problem. Market maximize their profit via while considering reactive power dispatch generation units. are procured presenting dual form relaxed ACOPF-based MCP improves exactness location marginal prices (LMPs) compared one DCOPF. It shown that DCOFP-based unable model limitations support. presented results display cases where proposed method renders $52.3\%$ more Generation Company (GENCO) than DCOPF-based model. also addresses coupling real constraints, ramping demand response implications curtailable time shiftable loads, line flow constraints.
